The prominent star in this image is AE Aurigae. Located about 1,300 light-years away, it illuminates the Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405). This image was created using 64 3-minute exposures, as well as calibration frames.
In front is Bode’s Galaxy (M81), a Grand design spiral galaxy about 12 million light years from us. In the upper left is the Cigar Galaxy (M82), a starburst galaxy about the same distance away.
